LIGHT PACKING LIST

  • DELIVERY GOWN - The hospital will supply one but wearing your own personal gown might help put you a little more at ease and better mindset. This is your birth mama!

  • ROBE / SLIPPERS / SOCKS- Hospitals are cold, you might want to walk around the maternity ward to help pass the time in labor, wearing your own robe and keeping your feet warm and cosy can do wonders

  • SPORTS BRA / SWIM TOP- Many hospitals are now offering birthing tubs or showers to help mamas manage labor pains, bring something you don’t mind getting wet in

  • POSTPARTUM UNDIES- The hospital will provide mesh undies which many mamas swear by, but throw an extra pair in your bag for homecoming day just in case you don’t

  • SNACKS- Labor is a marathon, and keeping up your energy, staying hydrated and nourished are important to get through the long hours of birth. Pack things like nuts, fruit, power bars, bone broth and coconut water to keep you strong for showtime. Unless you have an epidural you should still be allowed you to eat.

  • MUSIC PLAYLIST- Having a playlist of your favorite songs can help motivate or relax you when you need extra support

  • PHONE CHARGER, CAMERA- So your partner or support can help capture those special moments

  • HOMECOMING OUTFIT (Mama & Baby)- Something you would feel good and comfortable going home in with your new addition!

  • TOOTHBRUSH/PASTE, HAIRBRUSH- Labor and birth will have you looking all sorts of ways- which is completely normal! Packing a brush and something to tie your hair back will come in handy.

  • FACEWASH, FACIAL LOTION- The air in hospitals can be drying on the face and skin, packing a small bag of your own self care products can make you feel more comfortable

  • CHAPSTICK, CHAPSTICK, CHAPSTICK!! Because of the reason above

  • ESSENTIAL OILS- Lavender, Chamomile, Peppermint and other oils can help soothe, relax and even give you an extra boost of energy during labor. Hospital rule doesn’t allow for diffusing but a sniff out of the bottle or applying topically will work just fine!

  • HANDWRITTEN AFFIRMATIONS- Notes from friends, family or even yourself! Positive affirmations when times get tough can give you that extra boost of confidence

  • FAVORITE PILLOW- I know this is a light packing list- but you will be spending a couple days or more in the hospital- a pillow from home can help give you the rest your body needs.

  • EYEMASK- To get into the zone, it also helps the time go by. Sometimes we may feel pressured to make unwanted decisions during labor- put the ball back in your court and wear an eyemask if you need an extra line of defense.

THINGS YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING

  • PADS, DEPENDS, TUCKS, PERINEAL SPRAY, PERINEAL BOTTLE, PAIN MEDS- Double check but the hospital should have these and will give you extras to bring home. Have some of your own stock but you can leave them at home.
